COULD FISHER PASS KOBE?
BOTH WITH 5 RINGS FOR NOW
Derek Fisher is no longer with the Lakers... Again. Kobe has never won a ring without the little fellow and we all remember when Fish left the Lakers the first time to play in Utah. Remember what the roster looked like back then? it looked like Kobe would be stuck on 3 rings the rest of his career. When Fisher came back, they got a gift in Gasol and together they went on to win 2 more titles.
What if the Miami Heat show interest in Fish like they did when his contract was up back in 2010? Assuming of course, the Rockets go ahead and release Fisher like many expect them to do. If Fisher signs with the Heatles that would give him a very good chance at being able to pass Kobe in total Championships. Imagine Fisher passing Kobe in total rings? That would be like BJ Armstrong ending with more Rings then Michael Jordan.
Obviously Fisher is no where near the player he used to be but a team like Miami might suit him well. If he could come in and give them 5-6 minutes a game that would really help out the Miami guards down the stretch. Who knows, if he fit it well you might even see him out on the floor in crunch time minutes when the playoffs get going. Why not? Let's face it he is more clutch than Lebron in the fourth quarter, why wouldn't Pat Riley explore bringing D to Miami?
LAKERS STATE OF THE UNION
As of yesterday's trades the Lakers now have a point guard that can drive, defend and get to the rim. They get Ramon Sessions, while not a elite player certainly is serviceable for what the Lakers need. A point guard that falls in the middle of the NBA pack but is definitely a major upgrade since Fisher ranks at or near the bottom of point guards in the association at this point in his career.
The Lakers now have a quality Point Guard to go along with the best shooting guard in the game. They have a small forward that can play shutdown defense on the other teams best player, when he wants too. At the four, the Lakers have the best skilled 7 footer in the game and at Center they have the western conference starting all star. Not a bad starting 5. All of a sudden the Lakers went from a good team to a Western Conference contender.
Lakers a legitimate contender to top OKC for the western spot in the finals now. However, the one knock on Sessions is that he isn't all that great of a defender. Very serviceable, if not above average, in all other departments...even shown vast improvement in 3 point shooting.
ReplyDeleteLosing Walton, Kapono and Fisher's contracts are a nice added bonus.
