BAD GUY: HALL OF FAME NOMINEE

WILLIAM ZABKA AS  THE COBRA KAI BAD GUY JOHNNY LAWRENCE

The Urban Dictionary defines Cobra Kai as
This kick ass Karate team, that in the real world would have owned the Karate kids broke ass with few, if any hits... this team of supernatural teens do the damn thing.. And they do the damn thing without even packing heat... this group of extraordinary teens would take on any mark and devour them with there pure inevitable ways and manuvers for sure...

How could a kid that got his ass kicked all movie long and then gets his leg shattered be considered the winner? Daniel- San gets his revenge with a lucky crane kick to the chinpiece (after being dominated for about 115 minutes into the movie) you see it happen in MMA all the time.

IMBD.
An upper-middle to upper class (inferred by his Honda Dirt bike, red convertible, and membership in the Encino Oaks Country Club) high school senior at West Valley High School, John Johnny Lawrence was most likely born on June 21, 1967 (inferred from him being named twice winner, from the 1981 and 1983 All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournaments. Daniel being the only person to win back to back titles as referenced in Karate Kid 3). Johnny learned karate from sensei John Kreese, a Vietnam Veteran with anger management issues who owns a chain of Cobra Kai dojos and teaches a ruthless style of karate with stated mottos of "Strike first, strike hard, no mercy", "Mercy is for the weak "and "The enemy deserves no mercy". Additionally, Kreese instructs his students not to show mercy both in the street and competition. Lawrence appears to be the top student at the Cobra Kai dojo as evidenced by his championship performances at the 1981 & 1983 All Valley Karate Championships and his 2nd Place performance in the 1984 tournament held December, 19, 1984.

At the beginning of The Karate Kid, Johnny is introduced as a rising senior at West Valley High School focused on making the most of his final year of high school. Johnny is particularly troubled teenager with anger management issues who has not accepted a recent breakup, only weeks before the first day of his senior year of high school, with his ex-girlfriend Ali Mills (Elizabeth Shue). Johnnys anger towards the breakup becomes evident by his destruction of his ex-girlfriend's radio and assaults of Ali's love interest Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) at a local beach, a hillside road near Reseda, CA and a vacant lot outside Daniel Larusso's Reseda, CA apartment complex. Johnny appears to cope with his anger and disappointment about the dissolution of his relationship with Ali through drug use, as evidenced by the "number" or "joint" he rolls in the bathroom of his high school gymnasium during a Halloween dance.

Lawrence's largest flaw appears to be his blind acceptance of Kreese's teachings. Although hesitant to perform the controversial karate move of "sweeping the leg" on Larusso, Lawrence performs this move during the 1984 tournament at the instruction of his sensei. Also Lawrence heeds his sensei's instructions to leave Larusso alone, despite his desire to assault and harass Larusso.

Lawrence's downfall comes in the championship round of the 1984 All Valley Karate Championships where he appears to be no match for the Miyagi-Do karate style. Larusso defeats Johnny by delivering a "Crane Kick" squarely on Johnny's chin. After losing to Daniel, Johnny shows respect to Daniel and says, "You're alright, Larusso". Despite his valiant effort and performance, Kreese is disappointed in his top student and proceeds to break Lawrence's 2nd Place trophy and assault him. It is later revealed that Johnny, along with all of the other Cobra Kai students, departed from John Kreese after he proved himself a sadistic sore loser. In the Karate Kid, Part III we learn that the departure of Lawrence and his friends have put Kreese's Cobra Kai dojos on the verge of financial insolvency.

DODGER STADIUM STILL NOT SAFE

LOS ANGELES -- A minor fender bender in a Dodger Stadium parking lot over the weekend led to the beating of a driver and the arrest of four people more than a year after a San Francisco Giants fan was left with brain damage after an attack on opening day, police said Monday.

WHAT WILL THE LAKERS DO NOW?

"I'M NOT GOING FOR THAT SH*T" -kobe.

After back to back championships, its been back to back thumpings in the 2nd round. It is time to blow up the team and give Kobe at least two more solid chances at getting ring number 6.

Its time to get a premier point guard for Kobe Bryant. Ever notice that Kobe has to handle the ball, check their best scorer and is required to take most of the shots? The guy is usually doing all this against guys 10 years younger than him. He may need some help.  I don't think they will go after a much needed elite Point Guard (RAJON RONDO) because that would most likely have to involve Andrew Bynum and I don't think they would trade Bynum for anyone other than Dwight Howard assuming he signs a long term extension to stay. So assuming Bynum stays...
Pau Gasol? I think we need to move him. The problem is there is no way you can get equal value for a guy like Gasol. His skill set still makes him a top big man in the game. The major problem is Pau didn't look great this playoff run. I think the Lakers should call up Minnesota and revisit a deal involving Derrick Williams.  A full season of Ramon Sessions with Kobe, Bynum and Derrick Williams is a start at getting younger.

UPDATED: TROUT VS HARPER STATS.

PROSPECT WARS
BIGGER IMPACT
Bryce Harper vs. Mike Trout

Bryce Harper by the numbers. Age 19.  He is currently 19 for 78 that is a .244 Batting Average. He has hit 2 Home Runs while striking out 16 times with 1 SB. Harper has a SLG of .449 and a OPS of .782

Mike Trout by the numbers. Age 20. He is currently 27 for 76 that is a .355 Batting Average. He has hit 4 Home Runs while striking out 20 times with 6 SB.  Trout has a SLG of .605 Trout has a OPS of 1.026

QUARTER POLL POWER RANKINGS

UPDATED: 2012 Power Rankings
QUARTER-POLL
NO YANKEES OR RED SOX IN TOP 10

TOP 10 TEAMS
 10. Cleveland Indians.  (23-18) not ranked last poll. 5-5 in last 10 games. Currently leading the AL Central by 2.5 games. Not a very impressive team as they rank in the middle of the pack in runs, batting average and slugging. An offense led by Jason Kipnis will go under the radar. Derek Lowe has been outstanding to this point as a starter and Chris Perez has been just as good closing games.
9. Miami Marlins.  (22-19) not ranked last poll. 6-4 in last 10 games. Miami is 3.5 out in the East after a horrible start. Don't look now but Carlos Zambrano is an elite pitcher again currently sporting a 1.96 ERA. Josh Johnson had been struggling but looked like an ace last outing. They are only 3 games out and they have got little production Jose Reyes or Heath Bell to this point. I look for them and the Marlins to get hot at some point.
8. Toronto Blue Jays. (25-17) ranked 8th last poll. 5-5 in last 10 games.  Yes I have the 3rd place AL East team ranked ahead of the First place Central team. Brandon Morrow has stepped up and they have now a legit 1-2 ace combo in Ricky Romero from the leftside and Morrow blowing ched from the right. Edwin Encarnacion leads the offense in HR RBI and OPS. He would appear in the MVP voting if the season ended today.
7. St. Louis Cardinals. (22-19)  ranked 5th in last poll. 2-8 in last 10 games.  struggling lately but they are still 2nd in batting average and OPS and 3rd in overall SLG and Runs scored. They lose Berkman again, Craig was off to a hot start hit the DL, Chris Carpenter is still out. The offense is being led by Rafael Furcal and Carlos Beltran. The Cardinals don't need Carpenter as much as they need Wainright to regain form if they want a chance at repeating.
6. Washington Nationals. (24-17) ranked 4th last poll. 5-5 in last 10 games. Well thank you Adam LaRoche for saving the Nationals season. Leading the team in average, home runs and rbi he has provided enough offense with that pitching staff to maintain as they wait on Morse. Both Gio Gonzalez and Stephen Strasburg would appear on the NL Cy Young ballot to this point.
5. Tampa Bay Rays. (25-17) ranked 2nd last poll. 5-5 in last 10 games. 15-6 at home. With an offense led by Matt Joyce to me it looks like they will need another bat to keep pace in the East. Longoria out, the Rays are hanging in there. No one wants to face Price, Shields Hellickson in a series.
4. Baltimore Orioles. ( 27-15)  ranked 7th last poll. 7-3 in last 10 games.  currently 2 games up in the East with no signs of cracking. Buck Showalter has built a team that should compete all season. Adam Jones is doing what Matt Kemp did last season in bursting out. Think of the great CF in the AL East, Adam Jones, Curtis Granderson, Jacoby Ellsbury and Bossman.
3. Atlanta Braves. (26-16)  ranked 3rd  last poll. 7-3 in last 10 games. Leading the competitive NL East by 1.5 games. Freddie Freeman leads the offense in HR, RBI and Runs while Brandon Beachy (5-1) has a microscopic 1.33 ERA. The staff is outstanding and the bullpen is still the great.
2. Texas Rangers.  (26-16) ranked 1st in last poll. 5-5 in last 10 games.  First time not in the no. 1 spot the Rangers seem vulnerable all of a sudden. While Josh Hamilton gets all the credit, Elvis Andrus has quietly played the best SS in baseball.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers. (28-13) ranked 6th last poll. 8-2 in last 10 games. Have best record in baseball. 19-4 at home. With Matt Kemp out the Dodgers are a surprising 5-2. Already 7 games up on San Francisco in the West. Starting pitching has been lights out.

KOBE APPROVES

LAKERS BOUNCE BACK:
STEVE BLAKE SHUTS PEOPLE UP

By

Whether you like Steve Blake as a basketball player or not, there is absolutely no excuse for what several losers with no lives did after the Los Angeles Lakers' Game 2 loss when Blake missed a potential game-winning three-pointer in the dying seconds of the ball game.

Blake received death threats on his Twitter account toward not only him, but also his family following the game.

LAKERS OKC PREVIEW

LAKERS  VS. OKLAHOMA CITY:
PLENTY OF DRAMA TO COME
When asked if he is going to reach out and try to put the incident behind  Harden and himself, "I DON'T SHAKE SUBSTITUTES' HANDS..." Metta said after willing the Lakers to a game 7 win Saturday night against the Nuggets. A game 7 that was ear marked an instant classic according to the Lakers announcers, "one of the best games Staples Center as ever seen"

PLENTY OF SUBPLOTS ADD DRAMA.
By Brian Kamenetzky
ESPNLosAngeles.com

High on the list of intriguing storylines in this series will be the battle between the NBA's two leading scorers.
The prospect of facing the Oklahoma City Thunder in the postseason has for most of the season conjured incredibly pessimistic images for Lakers fans. As the regular season wound down you could practically hear Adrian's pre-Drago speech to Rocky  ringing throughout the city as most prayed the Lakers would leap through whatever logistical hoops required to avoid the Thunder until the Western Conference finals. But steadily the Lakers built momentum, solving some of their road woes and finding some actual support in the supporting cast.

Two games into their first-round matchup against Denver, things looked even better. Four games after that, they seemed much, much worse. Saturday, a strong performance pushed the Lakers through Game 7, finally earning a date with those very Thunder, starting Monday night in Oklahoma City. Nobody, save those viewing the world entirely through purple-and-gold-colored glasses, will make them a favorite -- nor should they. But despite the inconsistent effort vs. Denver, it's not out of the question the Lakers, through strong post play, attention to detail defensively, the intensity shown eliminating the Nuggets, and perhaps a healthy dose of ultra-rustic Siberian training  can give OKC a genuine test.

Maybe even pull the upset?

The series features serious star power, with each team trotting out a high-end big three. Oklahoma City's combo of Kevin DurantRussell Westbrook and James Harden brings, among other things, scoring punch and athleticism, while the Lakers counter with the length, experience and skill of Kobe BryantPau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. Lovers of subplots and intrigue will have a field day, too, starting with the NBA's two leading scorers facing off in a battle of old vs. new guard. Metta World Peace and Harden will share the floor for the first time since this happened.  Bynum and Gasol each have narratives to repair.

And, of course, the Lakers face a motivated Derek Fisher in a playoff series. The citizenry fears getting .4'd.

Derek Fisher trying to surpass Kobe and go for his 6th ring tying Michael Jordan. Kobe would rather die then to see happen.

UPDATED TOP 10 MLB

BASEBALLS TOP 25 PLAYERS: RIGHT NOW
UPDATED POWER RANKINGS
PLAYERS 10-1

...continued from 25-11 Players.

Rankings are based on this matrix
- overall stats over last 3 seasons
- Awards won ( sliver sluggers. gold gloves. Mvp. Allstar)
- Position primer
- value to team winning games
- Age (hurts Derek Jeter )
-  Mr. Resentments bias.

10. FELIX HERNANDEZ  P  Seattle Mariners. Cy Young winner,  4 Starts this season of at least 8 innings with 1 or 0 runs no other pitcher has more than 2 outings that nasty.  Often gets lost up there in Seattle, if he was on the Yankees or in Boston he would be one of the biggest stars in the sport. Currently 3-1 with a 1.89 era stringing together another Cy Young type season.

9. STEPHEN STRASBURG P Washington Nationals. first overall pick in 2009 has come on the scene and just may be the best right hander in the game. currently 2-0 with a 1.66 era he already has 38 k's and a whip of .84  the most dominant pitcher in the national so far this year.

8. RYAN BRAUN  OF Milwaukee Brewers. He is at it again proving he doesn't need any anabolics, ALLEGEDLY. He already has 10 bombs this year he has a lifetime average of .312 My pick for best Left Fielder in the game his durability for me puts him a head of the Rangers Josh Hamilton.

7. CLAYTON KERSHAW P. Los Angeles Dodgers. Larry Bowa has compared him to Sandy Koufax and if he thinks he is that good well that's good enough for me. A career record of 49-29 at the age of 24. 41 k's and only 9 BB with a whip under 1 makes him the best left hander in baseball according to me.

6. TROY TULOWITZKI  SS Colorado Rockies. The best Shortstop  baseball has seen since well Alex Rodriguez. Last 3 seasons he has averaged 30 home runs and just under 100 RBI. Multiple Gold Gloves and All-Star appearances makes him a top 10 no brainer.

5.  JUSTIN VERLANDER P. Detroit Tigers. Reigning Cy Young and MVP that possesses a 100 mph fastball at times makes him the best Right hander in the American League and possibly all of baseball.  109-58 career record with a 3.50 era shows he keeps his team in just about every single game he pitches.

4. MIGUEL CABRERA 3B. Detroit Tigers. Like the Tigers as a whole Miguel is off to a slow start but now that he plays 3B you could argue Cabrera is the best player in the game. I however feel you need to play defense for that honor. He hit .344 last season with 30 homeruns and hit 38 bombs the previous year.

3. ROY HALLADAY P Philadelphia Phillies. Averaging 20 wins over the past few seasons, multiple Cy Youngs, a playoff no hitter, pin point control and the ace of a staff that has Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels on it means you are pretty good. He has 191 career wins with only 94 losses. Went 19-6 last season and didn't win the Cy Young.

2. ALBERT PUJOLS 1B. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
    162-game averages: .328 AVG, 42 HR, 126 RBI, .617 SLG enough said.

1.  MATT KEMP OF Los Angeles Dodgers. One Home run shy of going 40-40 last year and he got short changed one game because it was never made up. Hit hit .324 last season and is on fire to start this season. My preseason #1 ranked player his play to this point makes it impossible for me change that. Still striking out a lot but who cares when you are hitting .385 right?

Best Players in MLB #25-11

BASEBALLS TOP 25 PLAYERS: RIGHT NOW
UPDATED POWER RANKINGS
PLAYERS 25-11
courtesy of cbssports.com
"right now" does not mean who has the best stats through 30 games. No you won't see Bryan LaHair on this list. I am talking about the players who are the 25 best players in the game with a track record. With that said you will not see any players out for significant time on the DL. Sorry Jacoby Ellsbury and Evan Longoria.

Rankings are based on this matrix
- overall stats over last 3 seasons
- Awards won ( sliver sluggers. gold gloves. Mvp. Allstar)
- Position primer
- value to team winning games
- Age (hurts Derek Jeter )
-  Mr. Resentments bias.

25B.  JONATHAN PAPELBON CLOSER  Philadelphia Phillies. Yeah I went there. With Mariano out Papelbon has the most playoff experience and now takes over as the games best stopper in the game. If the Phillies can ever figure out how to score some runs again with the staff they have and Pap in the 9th they could come roaring back into the playoff picture. Almost all World Series Champions have had a dominant closer and the Phillies have a playoff warrior.

25A. COLE HAMELS P Philadelphia Phillies.  Although I would consider him a dousche he was 14-9, 2.79 ERA, 194 Ks last season. Will be in line for a huge contract for someone willing to put up with this tool.

24.  DAVID PRICE P Tampa Bay Rays. 2nd in the Cy Young in 2010 and back on track this year David Price is a premier lefthander.

23. YADIER MOLINA  C St. Louis Cardinals. The Best catcher in the game by far. Factor in his glove, arm and now his bat he earned it.  a .305 BA, 14 HR, 65 RBI season last year a long with the fact he won another ring last year I see no problem calling him the games best receiver. Molina is probably the most surprising name to crack my list.

22. ADRIAN GONZALEZ  1B. Boston Red Sox. First overall pick in 2000 and he hasn't disappointed.  4 time all star a couple gold gloves and silver slugger awards to go with it. One of the sweetest swings in baseball. Last year he hit .338 BA, 27 HR, 117 RBI.

21. MATT CAIN. P SF Giants. The Giants made him the highest-paid right-hander in baseball history this offseason, with a six-year, $127.5 million extension. With Lincecum up and down and Cain just as steady as they come the Giants could be seeing a new "Ace" emerge from the rotation.

20JOEY VOTTO  1B. Cincinnati Reds.   signed a 12-year, $251.5 million extension what hurts him is that you would not consider him an elite power bat at the 1B position. Often gets lost in the talk of great players because so there are so many good first base men but I didn't forget about him.

19JUSTIN UPTON  OF Arizona Diamondbacks. Upton is still only 24 years old he is already a 2 time All Star and last year was a break out season for the young free swinger.

18. CURTIS GRANDERSON CF NY Yankees. Last season was a breakout year offensively for the Grandy Man hitting 41 big fly's finishing 4th in AL MVP voting.  Off to a hot start again this year with a line up that includes a ton of power this little guy has taken over as the premier slugger for the Yanks.

17.  JOSH HAMILTON OF Texas Rangers.  fresh off a 4 home run game puts him right back into the heart of this list. Should be higher, but the guy is to injury prone for my liking. Playing OF doesn't help his ranking either, plenty of great offensive outfielders in the game.  currently hitting .376 with 10 HR 28 RBI and 21 RBI which would rank him 2nd in fantasy value.

16. C.C. SABATHIA  P NY Yankees.  with the Yankees Sabathia has gone 59-23 with a 3.18 ERA logging over 230 innings every single year. A true work horse. currently 4-0 with a 4.15 era and 43 k's.

15. PRINCE FIELDER  1B Detroit Tigers. has averaged 38 HR and 108 RBI over his six full big-league seasons. Not to many hitters that can boast they have 40 homerun potential power anymore these days. Certainly not ones that make consistent contact the way Prince does.

14. DUSTIN PEDROIA  2B Boston Red Sox. Former MVP and current gold glove winner. a hit machine. The heart and soul of the Boston Red Sox a real leader gives him bonus points. Pound for pound he might be the best player in the game.

13. JERED WEAVER P Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. went 18-8 with a 2.41 ERA and 198 Ks last season and that would be good enough to take down the Cy Young almost any other season. Off to another great start this season. The Angels ace is one of the top righthanders in the game.

12. CLIFF LEE  P Philadelphia Phillies. His postseason track record is pretty spectacular. Has a Cy Young under his belt and also a 3 time all star. An ace lefthander on any team other than the Dodgers makes his value even higher. Currently has an ERA under 2 for the crappy Phillies.

11. ROBINSON CANO  2B. NY Yankees. A career average of .307 he often gets overshadowed by Jeter and A-Rod in his own infield. The best player on the Yankees is always an honor that is pretty cool to have. The best 2B in the game raises his value in my book. Great with the glove and seems to be a contender for the Batting Crown every year.

JOSH HAMILTON HAS A GREAT NIGHT

JOSH HAMILTON HITS 4 HOMERUNS
5-5 with 8 RBI

After going 5 for 5 with a career-high eight RBIs and setting an AL record with 18 total bases in the Rangers’ 10-3 win, Hamilton reflected on what his life was like before this unforgettable night.
“I think about what God’s done in my life, everything I did to mess it up,” he said. “To finally surrender everything and pursue that relationship with Christ on a daily basis and understanding when I don’t pursue it, I end up messing up. Understanding that what I’m doing and what God’s allowed me to do, coming back from everything I went through and allowing me to play the game at the level I play it, it’s pretty amazing to think about.”
Few players in the game today are playing at Hamilton’s level. He’s batting .406 and leads the majors with 13 homers and 36 RBIs....

FREEMAN PLAYER OF WEEK

ORANGE COUNTY'S
FREDDIE FREEMAN EARNS NL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
APRIL 30- MAY 6

Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman was named National League Player of the Week on Monday after hitting .367 in seven games.
Freeman had 11 hits, tying for the NL high, and three homers while knocking in 10 runs.
He hit safely in six of the seven games with a .767 slugging percentage to earn his second career weekly honor -- both coming in the last three weeks.
